Empire Day out – Manchester Thunder v Leeds Rhinos 12th March 2022

March 2022

Watching live netball is something many of us took for granted especially once covid hit. Historically netball has always been a huge participation sport, but struggled with live audiences both in person and on TV.

Over the years Sky Sports has developed a great partnership with England Netball & the Vitality Super League, covering more and more games and even broadcasting every game for free on their Youtube channel during covid when games could only happen behind closed doors.

Many of our junior players don’t know the international scope of Netball outside of the club. As coaches it is critical that girls of all ages are exposed to these incredible role models who compete in the UK, Australia and New Zealand. As such, it was decided we needed an Empire day out!
The battle of the Roses (Manchester Thunder vs Leeds Rhinos) took place on Saturday 12th March 2022 at the AO Arena in Manchester. It was amazing to have a coach full of players and parents, many experiencing a super league game for the first time head over to Manchester to watch the game.

Thunder didn’t disappoint and won the game 69 – 45. We hope that you enjoyed the game, it was amazing to see the players hang around after the game to meet the fans and take selfies with them.
Now the super league has finished, your next netball fix will be the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham this July. Be sure to tune in and support the England Roses!
